Heat Illness Prevention

Compliance: T8 CCR 3395 CFR General Duty Clause

Whether they work outdoors under the hot summer sun, or indoors with equipment and machinery that give off high levels of heat, employees need to know how to recognize and prevent Heat Stress and other heat-related health problems. Heat-induced disorders include transient heat fatigue, heat rash, fainting, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Aside from these disorders, heat poses the threat of injuries because of accidents caused by slippery palms as a result of sweating, fogged up safety glasses, and dizziness. Severe burns can also occur as a direct result of accidental contact with hot surfaces and steam.

The current and relevant OSHA standards have been included for easy reference. Other reference materials are also included.

Both English and Spanish employee training manuals and testing materials are included. The Employee Handbook includes information on situations leading to heat-related illnesses, heat stress, heat exhaustion and heat stroke, how the body reacts to heat, recognizing symptoms of heat stress, preventing heat-related illnesses, first aid, and more. Permission to reproduce both the Employee Safety Manual and quizzes is noted in the manual. A reproducible Documentation of Training form is also a part of the package.

Some of the other elements included in the heat illness manuals are:

  • Program Policies
  • Heat Stress And The Workplace
  • Regulatory References
  • Medical Considerations For Wearing Chemical Protective Clothing
  • Heat Stress Reference Information From American Conference Of Governmental Industrial Hygienists
  • Answer Key (Spanish)
